Postgresql like case insensitive

The expression in an expression index has to be immutable, but upper() is - it will always give the same output for a given input. LIKE clause is case sensitive! The citext extension allows you to define insensitive - case columns, so you can avoid things like the lower function. If you’re using Ubuntu, you have to install the postgresql -contrib package. At the very least Oracle seems to be case -sensitive by default as well. Essentially, it internally calls `LOWER()` when comparing values.


Otherwise, it behaves exactly like TEXT. How do i over come this pro. The subject has been discussed on this mailing list before, recently.

What am I missing, or what other information do I need to provide? Update: On my Mac, the pg_collation table shows I have an en_US. UTF-collation, but on Debian, I have an en_US.


Keine Ankündigung bisher. These type of fields we have control over as a developer so we can make sure they respect a certain case rule, such as all lower, all upper, etc. The aim is to create a duplicate check of companies. And present suspicious records for further action. What it actually does is convert your table and column names to lowercase by default.


PostgreSQL is case sensetive. LC_COLLATE on initdb which would make all comparisons of text fields case insensitive.
