Mysql trim leading zeros

What mysql functions are there (if any) to trim leading zeros from an alphanumeric text field? Better techniques for trimming leading zeros in. Ok i just need to remove some leading zeros from a number field. Field = prefix Numbers are 00xxxxxx with variable length. I also have other prefixs with one leading zero that i need to keep.
